Juan Ignacio de Aranguran is recorded as a barrelmaker of Placencia, Guipúzcoa. He made firearms for the guard of King Carlos IV (1788-1808) and his name is found on the lock and barrel of a military musket dated 1820 in the Museum Ejército, Madrid (inv. no. 16.4.1982). His marks appear to be unrecorded. See J. D. Lavin 1965, pp. 145 and 255.

Presented by Admiral Maximilian Daublebsky Freiherr von Sterneck to his nephew Walther Daublebsky Freiherr von Sterneck, thence by descent.

Admiral Maximilian Daublebsky Freiherr von Sterneck was Commander in Chief of the Imperial Austrian Navy. He fought at the naval battle of Lissa in 1866 and was victorious against the Italians. For this action he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresia.

Bérenger is recorded in Paris circa 1846-56. The system used on these pistols employs special caps, measuring 10mm by 4mm, containing a multiple detonating charge. This system was the fore-runner to the Flobert system. See J. Lugs 1956, p. 60.
