A JAPANESE KATANA AND WAKIZASHI MOUNTED AS A DAISHO, 18TH CENTURY
the katana with slightly curved single-edged blade with wavy hamon (one small chip), plain tang pierced with a single mekugi-ana, rounded nakago-jiri pierced parcel gilt iron Soten school tsuba decorated with a Samurai in a stylised landscape, fabric-bound sharkskin-covered grip with chiselled and gilt fuchi and kashira, a pair of gilt menuki formed as kabuto, in a lacquered saya decorated with foliage and a warrior; the wakizashi with slightly curved single-edged blade with wavy hamon, plain tang pierced with a single mekugi-ana, angular nakago-jiri, parcel-gilt iron tsuba pierced with figurative designs, fabric-bound sharkskin-covered grip, chiselled and gilt fuchi and kabuto-gane decorated with flowers and foliage, and a pair of soft metal menuki, in a lacquered saya decorated with foliage
