A PAIR OF FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS PISTOLS SIGNED SARGEANT, ABERGAVENY, BIRMINGHAM PROOF MARKS, CIRCA 1820 each with three-stage brass barrel belled at the muzzle, octagonal breech inscribed 'Abergaveny', engraved iron breech tang, signed engraved bolted lock with roller, figured walnut full stock, engraved brass mounts comprising trigger-guard with pineapple finials and a pair of moulded ramrod-pipes, and original horn-tipped wooden ramrod: in a contemporary fitted mahogany case lined in green baize (the base cracked and wormed, lining with areas of moth damage and wear, one compartment with a small chip), with some accessories including bullet mould and cleaning rod, together with a quantity of contemporary naval brass buttons and sword knots (the sword knots worn) 34.2cm; 13Iin By tradition the property of Captain Charles Burrough, First Lieutenant on the Russell at The Battle of Camperdown, 11th October 1797. £5000-6000

182 A PAIR OF SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK PISTOLS BY PETER 2 GANDON, LONDON, CIRCA 1750 each with swamped two-stage barrel inscribed 'London' over the breech and engraved with a band of foliage, engraved breech tang, signed engraved lock (one steel, top-jaw and screw missing, one steel detached), figured walnut full stock carved with a raised moulding about the barrel tang (one fore-end extensively chipped, the other stock with a small chip behind the lock), iron trigger-guard with acanthus finial, silver mounts cast and chased in low relief, including scrolling side-plate and grotesque mask butt-cap, and iron-capped wooden ramrod (the iron parts patinated, one ramrod replaced) 31cm; 12Din (2)Peter 2 Gandon was made Free of the Gunmaker's company 1736 and registered his mark in 1742. He is recorded as a gunmaker on Bond Street 1742-45 and became bankrupt in 1754. £1000-1200

183 A RARE CASED IRISH FLINTLOCK OFFICER'S PISTOL AND TRAVELLING PISTOL BY RIGBY, DUBLIN CIRCA 1800-10 with browned twist sighted barrels inscribed 'Dublin' over the breeches, fitted with stirrup ramrod beneath and with blued spring bayonets on the left released by blued sliding catches, signed stepped engraved locks, fitted with 'French' cocks, rollers, and blued bolt safety-catches, figured walnut full stocks with characteristic slender chequered butts, the Officer's pistol with brass mounts of regulation type including small butt-cap, trigger-guard of shaped outline and fore-end cap, the travelling pistol with engraved blued mounts including trigger-guard with pineapple finial and ramrod-pipe: in their original mahogany case lined in green baize, the lid with flush-fitting brass carrying handle, applied with trade label for No.19 Suffolk Street on the inside (small tears, the lining with areas of minor wear), and complete with a bullet mould for each pistol and Dixon & Sons three-way flask 31.5cm; 12Gin and 21cm; 8Din £5000-7000

ADAM KUCHENREUTER IN REGENSBURG, CIRCA 1850 with etched twist octagonal sighted barrels signed in gold script surrounded by silver scrollwork and stamped with silver-lined maker's mark, scroll-engraved breeches and breech tangs, the latter each fitted with adjustable back-sight, scroll-engraved locks each fitted with gravity-stops, decorated with trophies-of-war and differing scenes of cavalrymen, the hammers each engraved with a J"ger vignette, set triggers, highly figured walnut half-stocks carved with scrollwork about the tangs and over the fore-ends, fluted butts carved en suite (one cracked through and repaired), scroll-engraved steel mounts en suite with the breech tangs, comprising flush-fitting side-plates of shaped outline, spurred trigger-guards, and butt-caps, and vacant white metal escutcheons: in original fitted case lined in plum velvet, and retaining almost their entire compliment of original accessories including mainspring clamp, nipple key and cut-glass oil bottle (powder-flask and turnscrew missing) 40cm; 15Nin Johann Adam Kuchenreuter (1794-1869) was gunmaker to the Princes von Thurn und Taxis. £5000-6000
